Research and Development

The Royal Devon is proud to be a research active organisation working at the cutting edge of health delivery. The Trust supports staff of all professions to discover better ways to prevent and treat ill health enabling people from across our community to benefit from research participation and people from across the world to benefit from our research outputs.

The Trust has a Joint Research Office (JRO) in partnership with the University of Exeter, to develop and deliver world-class experimental, translational and health research and to provide a mechanism to enable effective collaborative working with life sciences partners. The collaboration with the University also includes the NIHR Exeter Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). The Trust’s researchers also collaborate with other academic partners ensuring the opportunity to participate in research is provided across the breadth of our specialties and sites.

Research and development is supported in the Trust by the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Adrian Harris, Executive Lead for Research. Research and development professional services staff work across all Trust sites to support researchers to develop their own projects or to bring projects led by other institutions to Royal Devon patients. Our clinical research delivery teams work hand in hand with clinical service staff to recruit and care for patients in clinical trials and studies.
