Communication Access

We are pleased to announce that the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is now officially accredited as a communication accessible organisation. We are the first NHS Trust to be accredited as a whole organisation which is a very exciting achievement.

We are proud to have made this public commitment to make sure we do everything we can to meet the needs of people with communication difficulties.

Why is Communication Access important?

Communication is not simply about the ability to speak but also the ability to hear and understand what is said to us.

This lies at the very core of human dignity.

Millions of people across the United Kingdom have communication difficulties, including both adults and children.

Communication difficulties can occur for a range of reasons and leave millions without a voice, denying them equality of access and opportunity.

Communication Access Training

An important part of our accreditation is our commitment to provide all our staff with training to gain skills and confidence to engage with people with communication difficulties much more effectively.

A better communication experience for all will always translate into better patient care.
