One month on from launching our new electronic patient record

19 Aug 2022

Tuesday 9 August marked one month since the Royal Devon's Northern services went live with our new electronic patient record, Epic. This is the same system we have been using across our Eastern services since 2020.

It's been a month of learning new ways of working, as well as hard work and dedication from all our staff. This month, we’ve seen a lot of firsts and accomplishments whilst everyone is getting used to the system.

In the last month, across our Northern services our staff have used Epic to:

  • Register 105 baby births
  • Record 12,333 visits to patients’ homes
  • Admit 2,881 patients to hospital
  • Discharge 2,931 patients from hospital
  • Book 28,888 outpatient appointments

One month on, we’re excited to continue to improve how Epic works, keep providing the best possible care for our patients, and explore how to use Epic to its fullest potential.

Access your hospital health information via MY CARE

Now we have Epic in place across our Northern and Eastern services, we can offer patients more visibility and control of much of their care. We are encouraging patients to sign up to a new app called MY CARE.

MY CARE can be accessed on your mobile phone, desktop or tablet and gives you an up-to-the-minute picture of your care arrangements whenever you need it. Day or night, at home or abroad, you can access your hospital health information via MY CARE.

Key features include:

  • Get some test results as soon as they are available
  • View your calendar of future appointments, along with appointment details
  • Search for information on past appointments*, along with any medical notes or after-visit summary information provided by your nurse or doctor
  • View your prescribed medication

Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and search ‘My Chart’. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the app. Alternatively, you can access MY CARE via your web browser.

Once you are on the webpage or have opened the My Chart app, select our Trust to begin your registration to MY CARE.

If you have any difficulties installing or activating the app, there’s an app support team standing by to help guide you through the process.
