Allied Health Professionals

At the Royal Devon, we have a wide range of specialist disciplines, staffed by skilled professionals who provide expert, high-quality care to patients and service users both within our hospitals and in the community. Known collectively as Allied Health Professions (AHPs), they include therapeutic and diagnostic radiography, speech and language therapy, orthoptics, podiatry and operating department practice.

All of our Allied Health Professionals are fully integrated into patient care, they work closely with clinical colleagues to provide care and advice in their area of expertise.

As an Allied Health Professional, you might be based in one of our specialist therapy teams or you may find yourself working in the community or supporting the well-being of our own staff. As part of a bigger multi-disciplinary team, you will also get all of the support that you need to do an amazing job.

Career Development

We recognise that AHPs provide the backbone of medical care in our Trust and we actively support your learning, development and career progression. From the moment that you qualify and join our trust, you will be given support, advice and guidance through our preceptorship programme which is designed to help you make the transition from newly-qualified AHP to confident practitioner.

Once your preceptorship has finished, you will have the opportunity to undertake specialist education and training within your chosen area. We’ll work with you to develop an annual training and development plan that also includes funding and study time. This could also include support to progress along the leadership route or into advanced practice roles.
